Tiger presence at Julok Raya Utara

January, 2010. WRU (Wildlife Response Unit) accepted information about tiger presence in Julok Raya, Aceh. The villager said that the tiger often appear in palm oil and timber plantation. This plantation is under management of PTPN I Afdeling 2. Tiger seems not disturbing people, but WRU carried out patrol in those area to make sure that the tiger is save from hunter.

pic1January 2010, WRU carried out patrol after accepted information from villager. They said that tiger appear for few day in plantation area. WRU found tiger foot prints around settlement. Distance between foot print and settlement is about 1 km. The size of foot print is 9cmx10cm, separated into two locations. WRU team then set up mitigation with villagers to forced tigers. WRU used firecrackers to make tiger fear and fled from settlement areas.

April 2010, WRU met with plantation supervisors to discussed about possibility to develop joint patrol with plantation staff and sharing information to WRU when they found tiger presence and conflict. Joint patrol and monitoring will be started on May. Patrol team consist of forest guard from Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP), WRU staff, and representative staff from plantation. (dna)
